It uses a MC68000 CPU with a Z80 sound CPU. The sound chips are either a YMZ280B or OKIM6295 x (1|2) + YM2203 / YM2151. The Z80 and OKIM6295 x (1|2) + YM2203 / YM2151 are optional components.

The CAVE 1st Generation Hardware was a popular hardware board used by many companies besides Cave. Other companies that used the hardware include [[Atlus]] and [[Namco]].
