SNK released the Candy 18 aka R6001 cabinet in 1987 in response to SEGA's 1986 City cabinet, also taking inspiration heavily from the latter. It was launched simultaneously with the cocktail Table 18 (T6001).

The Candy 18 featured an extension pedestal module to convert an existing sitdown cabinet into an upright version, raising its total height an additional 85cm (from 110 cm to 196 cm). It featured stock an Asahi Seiko AD-81P coin mech.
