Predecessor MS8-29
Successor MS-2931

The Nanao MS9-29 was an arcade monitor manufactured by the NANAO Corporation (now known as Eizo Corporation)[1]. The MS9-29 proved to be a popular choice of Sega Europe being fitted to many genre defining machines like Daytona USA and House of the Dead. It was also known for its usage in Sega New Astro City and Taito Egret II cabinets.

The MS9-29 was a successor to the previous MS8-29 in almost every way, with improved safety (due to more components being on the secondary side instead of the primary side) and better colour adjustment with a dedicated Contrast pot. Sadly the MS9-29 in its default configuration suffers from a slightly softer picture than the MS8-29 in 24Khz mode, however a modification has been identified to restore the sharpness of the MS8 to the MS9[2].

Even to this day the MS9-29 proves to be a fan favourite.

Chassis Specifications/Variations

Chassis:
Input Voltage: 100-120V 50/60Hz 1.7A (105W)
LOPT (Flyback): MSU1FHH09 97307T
B+ Voltage: 15kHz 76V DC / 24kHz 116V DC (You must set the 15kHz voltage correctly first as the 24kHz is reliant on this).

CRT Tube Specifications

Across the many regions the MS9-29 was sold as well as multiple hardware variations, there were multiple tube choices:

Model Manufacture Lh (mH) Lv (mH) Rh (Ω) Rv (Ω) Filament G1
A68KJU96X Toshiba 0.325 15.617 0.6 8.1 6.3 50
A68KSA30X Hitachi 6.3 50
M68JUA068X Matsushita 6.3 70

The above table shows known used CRT tubes and approx values (based on multiple readings from multiple MS9 tubes) for inductance and resistance of the yoke windings. Finally the end values are for a CRT tester like the B&K 467, 470, 480 etc to test the tube health.

A number followed by a letter between brackets on the label of Toshiba CRTs is the date of manufacture (4D = April 1994, 6H = August 1996, etc.) and is not part of the CRT designation.
In this example pictured 7E would be May 1997.
