Ibara (鋳薔薇) is a 2005 vertical scrolling shooter developed by Japanese developer Cave, programmed by Shinobu Yagawa. It is Yagawa's first game for Cave after leaving Raizing. In 2006, Ibara received a sequel in the form of Pink Sweets ~Ibara Sorekara~.

Ibara also received an alternate version in 2006 titled Ibara Kuro: Black Label. This game is similar to Ibara only in name and graphics/music. It is otherwise an entirely different game with a different programmer.

Alternative Game Modes

Ibara features two extra game modes: Harder & Extended which have their own High Score tables. When one of these modes is activated the mode name will be displayed at the top of the play field.

Harder

Push joystick UP while pressing START - Harder mode is the same as the normal game, but played at a higher difficulty.

Extended

Push joystick DOWN while pressing START - Extended Mode features a second loop after completing the first. The first loop is the same difficulty as normal mode, while the second loop is more difficult[1].

Special Ver.

As with all Yagawa-programmed games starting with Armed Police Batrider, Ibara features a Special Ver. that offers numerous options for players looking to learn the inner workings of the game.

To activate it you need to do the following:

  • Move the S2 (DIL SWITCH) SW2 to the left like this:

  • Power on the game
  • Hold down button A+B and press the TEST button
  • You will enter a special version of setup which looks like this:

  • Now press the A button to return to the game. The title screen should look like this:

Note: You can also access the Special Ver. by holding down the A+B buttons while powering on the game.

After you insert a coin, manipulating the joystick will allow you to change some of the parameters on screen[2].

  • Holding down A+B while powering on (with the S2 switch set already) will also enter special ver when the game starts up.

Repair Guides

  • If your audio is clicking during the memory check screen (and elsewhere) it's possible the sound capacitor in the top left corner has come off. Check and resolder if required.
  • If the clock on Stage 6 no longer displays the correct time the battery on the CV1000 has died. The CV1000 uses a CR2450 battery for the RTC.
