JVS
Short Introduction
JVS, or Jamma Video Standard (sometimes even called JAMMA 2), is a specification by a JAMMA special sub-committee consisting of the major arcade game manufacturers. JVS specifies the type of connectors to use for video (HD-15), audio (RCA) and power (JST_VL), in addition to the communications protocol between the game board and the I/O board. In contrast to (old) JAMMA, JVS concentrates I/O functions in a separate board.
A note on the USB connectors
Although USB connectors and cables are used for communication, both the physical signals and the protocol transmitted is completely different and not compatible.

Sega 838-13683-02
This is the second IO board with a JAMMA interface Sega made, there is some confusion as to what this is called, but to be precise it's probably best to stick to what the sticker says (838-13683-02). It identifies itself as:
SEGA ENTERPRISES,LTD.;I/O 838-13683D ;Ver1.09;99/11
The operation and pin-out of extra buttons is identical to 838-13683-93, BUT the silkscreen/markings on this version leaves a little to be desired when it comes to clarity. Pin14 is in the top-left corner in the picture below.

JVS bus detailed mode of operation
JVS consists of 4 signals:
- RS-485 A
- RS-485 B
- SENSE
- GND
The RS-485 is for data transfer, is shared between all nodes (implying half-duplex) and runs at 115200 baud, while the sense line is point-to-point.
Arcade Hardware Using JVS
- Namco system 256
- Namco System 357
- Sega NAOMI
- Sega NAOMI 2
- Sega TriForce
- Sega Chihiro
- Sega Lindbergh
- Taito Type X
- Taito Type X²
