The Atomiswave (アトミスウェイブ codename System X) is a 2003 custom arcade system board and cabinet from Sammy Corporation. It is based on Sega's Dreamcast system board (thus it's common to see the "Sega" logo on its boot up screen). The Atomiswave uses interchangeable game cartridges and the cabinet's control panel can be easily switched out with different control sets, including dual joysticks, dual lightguns and a steering wheel. With the retirement of the aging Neo Geo MVS system, SNK Playmore chose the Atomiswave as its next system to develop games for. In a contract with Sammy, SNK Playmore agreed to develop five games for the Atomiswave system. Metal Slug 6 was SNK Playmore's fifth game for the Atomiswave, after which SNK moved on to the Taito Type X² arcade board.[1]

Buyers Guide

Telltale signs of a Bootleg

  • Check the serial against the table above - all the bootlegs have the same label and thus the same matching serial number
  • "Made in japan" text has been removed from the sticker label.
  • The sticker label corners are rounded on originals : on bootlegs they are not.
  • When inserting the game, the cart doesn't seem to go down totally.
  • If you dismantle the cart, you'll find there are plastic guide so the pcb can't be put incorrectly : only the bootleg feature this (yep, the bootleg is better made than the original)
  • Once dismantled, you can also see the pcb looks different from an original. From my experience, HNK and Samourai Shodown have bootleg PCB made in late 2009 and the SEGA logo is missing. Also chips are only on one side while they are on both on originals.

Fist of the North Star ingame appears 100% correct, but Samourai Shodown IV has many graphical glitches in some animation, backgrounds, static sprite/logo.
