Trisync chassis used in Sega New Net City. Regarded by many as one of the finest arcade monitors ever produced. This chassis also may or may not be known as the PD-1843.

Extended Menus

The standard menus of the D29C051 has no geometry or color adjustments so you're out of luck if you want to adjust anything apart from the normal size, position, brightness and contrast settings. However, two extended menus (color adjustment and geometry adjustment have been found that can be reached through a simple modification of the normal remote board.

Disconnect the normal remote board and take it out.

The pins of the connector on the board are numbered 38-42. Pin 42 is ground and pins 38-41 are connected to the buttons that trigger various functions on the standard menus. You can see that some of the buttons are connected via resistors.

Two of the extended menus can be found by grounding pin 39 and pin 40 with a different resistance:

  • Color adjustments - Ground pin 39 with 0 Ohm (i.e. no resistor needed).
  • Geometry adjustments - Ground pin 40 with a resistor of anything between 2k to 8k Ohm.

Step-by-step Instructions for the Modification

For this simple mod, you need two pushbuttons, four pieces of short wire and a resistor with a value of anything between 2k to 8k Ohm.

  1. Disconnect the normal remote board and take it out.
  2. Solder a wire to pin 39 on the backside of the remote board.
  3. Solder the other end of the wire to one of the pins of a pushbutton.
  4. Solder a second wire to pin 40 on the backside of the remote board.
  5. Solder the second wire to the resistor.
  6. Solder the other end of the resistor to a second pushbutton.
  7. Solder a wire from the remaining pin on each of the two pushbuttons to the ground pin 42 on the backside of the remote board (twist the two wires together to make it easier to solder them to the remote board).
  8. Reconnect the remote board that now has two magic buttons installed.

Another even more elegant method is to install the buttons directly on the remote board itself so no loose wires are exposed at all. But make sure the board will still fit into the mount of your cab so the buttons are reachable.

Navigating the Extended Menus

  • Press one of your newly installed buttons to trigger one of the extended menus.
  • Move down the menu by pressing the button again.
  • Change a value by pressing the normal "up" and "down" button on the remote board.

More Extended Menus?

The "correct" way to access the extended menus is reportedly with a service remote board. It's likely that this can access even more menus that it should be possible to find with variations of the methods described here.

K29CQ50 Extended Menu Differences

K29CQ50 is a very similar earlier model to the D29C051. It lacks the pin balance settings and pin corner top and bottom settings on the geometry menu but has a H-frequency menu accessed by grounding pin 39 at 3k-5k.

This monitor has been confirmed to have been used in early production models of the Egret 3 cabinet. Taito later switched to cheaper and lower quality Wei-Ya monitors.

The original Tosh PF D29C051 chassis (With TOSHIBA tube) has a 33uf, 200V Cap on the neck card (C228). IF the Tosh PF has a MATSUSHITA tube, then the C228 Cap is 220uf, 200V.
