The Xiongba KT003 is a Chinese 29-inch universal arcade cabinet manufactured by Macrown Electronic Development Co., Ltd., now known as Guangzhou Macrown Animation Technology Co., Ltd.. The name Xiongba appears to have been used by Macrown for a range of ABS-bodied universal cabinets rather than as the name of a separate manufacturer.[1]
Macrown advertised the KT003 as an ABS cabinet suitable for commonly used arcade game boards. The original supplier listing gives dimensions of 920 mm deep, 760 mm wide and 1,720 mm high, a weight of 80 kg and support for either 110 V or 220 V electrical supplies.[1]
The cabinet is generally regarded as a Chinese clone or derivative of the Sega Versus City. Unlike the original linked Versus City arrangement, the KT003 was sold as a self-contained single cabinet. It contains a 29-inch monitor which can be mounted horizontally or vertically, although no dedicated rotation mechanism is provided.
Optional coin-in and coin-out equipment was offered by Macrown. Cabinets were exported internationally and consequently survive with varying controls, monitors, power supplies and internal equipment.
Totem / XiongBa connection
A cabinet identified as XiongBa also appears in surviving Totem/cntotem material under the designation CA005JD.
The shared XiongBa name, period and general cabinet category strongly suggest a relationship with Macrown's Xiongba range, including the KT003 and KT008. However, no surviving documentation has yet established that Totem's CA005JD is specifically the KT003.
Several possibilities remain:
- CA005JD may be a Totem catalogue designation for the Macrown KT003.
- It may represent the related KT008 or another member of the Macrown Xiongba family.
- Totem may have acted as a reseller or exporter of a Macrown-manufactured cabinet.
- The cabinet may have been rebadged for sale through the Totem range.
- The shared XiongBa name may refer to a closely related but distinct cabinet.
Until a Totem catalogue image, specification sheet or surviving cabinet label can be directly matched against the KT003, CA005JD should not be treated as a confirmed alternative model number for the KT003.
The evidence does, however, make it reasonable to regard the Totem XiongBa as likely belonging to the same broader cabinet family rather than as an unrelated machine which merely shares the name.
Design
The KT003 follows the general form of Sega's Versus City, with a large 29-inch CRT positioned above a two-player control panel and enclosed in an ABS-bodied sit-down cabinet.
The resemblance is strongest in the overall silhouette and control-panel arrangement, although the KT003 is a self-contained cabinet rather than one half of Sega's linked back-to-back Versus City system.
Original Sega components should not automatically be assumed to be interchangeable with the KT003.
Monitor
The KT003 is fitted with a 29-inch CRT monitor.
The monitor can be mounted horizontally or vertically. No built-in rotation mechanism is provided, so changing orientation requires physically repositioning the CRT.
Macrown offered cabinets with different monitor configurations, and surviving exported examples may therefore contain different monitor makes or replacements fitted later in their service lives.
Wiring and power
The cabinet uses the JAMMA wiring standard.
Macrown specified operation from either AC110V or AC220V supplies, depending on configuration.
Optional coin-in and coin-out equipment was also available.
Identification
The designation KT003 is a Macrown model number.
The name Xiongba was used more broadly and should therefore not be assumed to identify the KT003 specifically without supporting photographs or labels.
