SNK's MVS-U4/25 4-slot MVS & 25" monitor cabinet was released probably released around June 1991 under the early simpler name MVS-U4 since it was presented to the public at an event in Tokyo along with various Neo Geo games (see article below in Gallery) and shortly after used in national Neo Geo competitions in Japan. Another event, "Neo Geo new games exhibition", in July 91 at Taito's headquarters, with SNK's partner Kawakusu, showed neogeo games on MVS-U4 & SCB-U4 for the public to play & test. SNK gave the cabinet its final name MVS-U4/25 circa 1993 adding the suffix /25 which can be seen in official promo publications (see August 1993 catalog excerpt below).

This nomenclature issue has caused some confusion amongst collectors and owners.

The 2-slot version of the same cabinet, SNK MVS-U2/25 was also sold earlier in 1991 without the /25 suffix (MVS-U2) and was renamed exactly at the same time as MVS-U4/25 in 1993.
