The SNK MVS-U6 (ネオ・ジオ MVS-U6) is a Japanese upright Neo Geo MVS cabinet advertised by Kawakus (株式会社カワクス) in 1991. Contemporary advertisements identify it as NEO-GEO MVS-U6 and state that it can accommodate up to six game cartridges.
The advertised cabinet has a light-coloured body and a compact upright design. It should not be confused with the much larger, red-and-black MV25U6-0 upright. Although both names contain U6 and both refer to six-game MVS machines, the surviving advertisements show visibly different cabinets. No document currently establishes that the MVS-U6 is an alternative designation for the MV25U6-0.
Contemporary advertising
Kawakus advertised the MVS-U6 alongside other amusement machines in the Japanese trade publication Game Machine during 1991. It appears in the issues dated 1 September, 1 October, 15 October and 1 November 1991.
The 1 November advertisement describes the cabinet with the lines:
- ソフト6本まで収納可能
- あらゆるロケで高収益!!
These mean approximately:
- Can hold up to six game cartridges.
- High earnings at all kinds of locations!
The second statement is promotional language, rather than a documented earnings figure.
Cabinet
The small advertisement photograph shows a predominantly light-coloured upright cabinet with:
- a raised upper section containing game-information displays
- a recessed monitor beneath the upper section
- a projecting control panel
- a narrower lower cabinet with a front access panel
The advertisement does not provide a sufficiently clear view to confirm the exact control layout, coin mechanism or cabinet construction. Nor does it give a monitor size, dimensions or weight.
Neo Geo MVS system
The MVS-U6 was advertised as accommodating up to six game cartridges. The Neo Geo MVS system allowed operators to change the available games by replacing cartridges.
The advertisement establishes the cabinet's advertised game capacity, but does not identify its exact motherboard revision, wiring arrangement or other internal equipment.
Kawakus
The surviving advertisements were placed by Kawakus (株式会社カワクス). They establish that Kawakus marketed the MVS-U6 in Japan. They do not, by themselves, establish whether Kawakus manufactured the cabinet, distributed an SNK-manufactured cabinet, or supplied a cabinet assembled by another company.
Relationship to MV25U6-0
The MV25U6-0 is documented separately as a large, 25-inch, red-and-black upright associated with overseas Neo Geo MVS installations.
The cabinet pictured as the MVS-U6 in Kawakus's Japanese advertisement is light-coloured and has a different exterior design. The two designations should therefore remain on separate pages unless further documentation establishes a more specific relationship.
Specifications published for the MV25U6-0, including its dimensions, monitor size, weight and power consumption, should not be assigned to the MVS-U6 on the basis of the similar model names.
