SNK "unveiled" the SC14-2 cabinet at the 29th AM Show in October 1991, it was subsequently released the same year in November 1991 (see in Gallery)

The use of the SC term in the industry was said to categorize compact cabinets made preferably for Shopping Center venues. With the (new) SC series SNK would develop for late 1991 with SC14-2 (14", max 2 MVS games) being the smallest and first, SNK would attempt -successfully- to revitalize the dagashiya style of the 1991 SCB-U4 and the earlier 1990 MV19SC-0 in a modernized format, along with the multi slot MVS system and a revised shader hood (much more effective and thus larger, more enveloping than the optional one of the MV19SC-0) which is not integral with the main cabinet structure -it is detachable-. SNK's own SC14-2 is more durable than the Liberty made by Towa, yet surprisingly offers only a 2-slot MVS system (NEO-MVH MV2C) whereas the wooden MV19SC-0 offered a 4 slot. The shader hood has a rounded side profile but still presents 90° angles frontally whereas the Cosmo AMBO 18 and later SNK Neo 19 have each a practically completely rounded hood.

SC14-2 features stereo sound with a pair of Hi-Fi speakers located under the hood.

December 1991 advert, flyer (color, later) and brochure catalogs all contain the same commercial pitch lines, promoting a certain optional riser "stand" module, not shown (not even in technical sketch format), yet said to add +160mm to the quite small 1224mm stock height of the cabinet for a total of 1384mm, still in the ballpark of a sitdown despite the claims. Early preview flyer (monochrome) did not mention any riser stand. Said riser module has never been shown in any published promotional material whether it was mentioned or not and has never been observed in arcades nor on the 2nd hand market, possibly meaning the product was canceled or produced in extremely small quantities for location testing hypothetically.

SNK specifies the heightened cabinet is meant for adults which confirms stock SC14-2 was originally intended to appeal to children. Even at 1384mm the cab wouldn't be categorized as an Upright and SNK never mentions the term nor the very common term "Mini Upright". On the other hand it can be considered that for very young children, the cab is somehow an Upright, but this holds true even to any Sitdown. • Note: SC19-4 is said in SNK's cabinet lineup brochure to have also its own optional dedicated (riser) stand adding +160mm height, which no one has seen as well.
