The Taito TT-28 is a sitdown arcade cabinet produced by Taito and documented by a factory instruction manual as the TT-28" STANDARD.
The surviving manual is dated © Taito Corp. 1989, providing firm evidence that the cabinet existed by 1989.
Very little technical information about the TT-28 is currently documented, but the factory manual cover provides a clear illustration of the cabinet while period arcade photography collected by researchers at Neo-Arcadia appears to show surviving TT-28 cabinets installed in an arcade.
Identification
The factory instruction manual explicitly identifies the cabinet as:
- TT-28" STANDARD
The manual artwork depicts a low sitdown cabinet with a broad, angular upper body and a large CRT mounted beneath an inclined glass or bezel area.
Visible design features include:
- Large CRT monitor
- Low sitdown cabinet format
- Broad rectangular upper body
- Angled monitor presentation
- Projecting player control panel
- Large rear or upper instruction / marquee panel
- Lower service and equipment enclosure
The cabinet has a notably wide and low profile compared with many conventional Japanese sitdown cabinets of the late 1980s.
Monitor
The TT-28 designation strongly indicates a 28-inch monitor, and the factory manual itself is titled TT-28" STANDARD.
The exact CRT manufacturer, chassis model and supported scan frequencies have not yet been established from the material presently available.
Until further factory documentation is recovered, details such as monitor rotation should remain unconfirmed.
Period arcade photograph
A period arcade photograph documented by Neo-Arcadia appears to show several TT-28 cabinets in the background.
The cabinets can be recognised by their distinctive upper marquee / instruction-board profile, which corresponds closely with the configuration shown on the factory TT-28 manual cover.
The supplied reference photograph marks one of the machines with a red arrow.
Because the cabinets are distant and partially obscured, this photograph is most useful as evidence for the cabinet's general production appearance and arcade use rather than for determining detailed technical specifications.
Design
The manual illustration shows an unusual cabinet layout consisting of a large rectangular monitor enclosure mounted over a relatively compact lower structure.
Unlike upright cabinets, the CRT is presented at a relatively shallow viewing angle suited to seated play.
The player controls project from the front of the cabinet rather than being incorporated into a conventional vertical upright fascia.
The cabinet also carries a large rectangular panel behind the monitor area which appears intended for game instructions, artwork or other operator display material.
Further photographs or manual pages would be needed to determine whether this structure was illuminated or interchangeable.
Documentation
At present the principal surviving documentation consists of:
- Factory TT-28" STANDARD instruction manual
- Factory manual dated 1989
- Period arcade photography showing cabinets of matching appearance
- Photographic identification work published by the Neo-Arcadia community
No dimensions, weight, electrical rating or monitor chassis details should presently be inferred without further pages from the manual or other Taito documentation.
